Instant Ramen
Humble noodles, often flash fried and packaged as a single serving with a satchet of seasoning. The package often contains some basic instructions for preparation.
Tools
- Vessel for heating water to a boil. An electric or stovetop kettle works.
- A bowl
Ingredients
- Water
- 1 package of Instant Noodles
- Optional: Any other ingredients for mixing into the noodle soup. See Considerations for notes on this topic.
Steps
- Begin heating water. The water will need to be heated to a boil. You proceed with other preaparation steps while the water boils.
- Break the noodles while they are still in the package.
- Open the package.
- Remove and reserve the seasoning satchet from the package.
- Move the noodles from the package to the bowl.
- Open the seasoning packet and sprinkle some seasoning over the noodles. Adding the whole packet is unnecessary, use discretion and mind any dietary restrictions considering the high sodium content.
- Optional: You may add enhancing ingredients at this point.
- When the water is boiling, add it to the bowl until the water in the bowl reaches the top of the noodles.
- Wait 3 to 5 minutes for the noodles to be ready.
Considerations
Canned sardines or other ready to eat seafood make a protein rich ingredient.
Chives or other fresh herbs can be a nice addition.
You may modify this procedure if you boil the water in a pot rather than the kettle. With this variation you can add the noodles to the boiling water and break an egg into the soup for a type of egg drop soup.
